AAIFF Screening Ticket Giveaway

ATTENTION FILM LOVERS! Here’s your chance to win a free ticket to a movie screening.

In partnership with the Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF), which is the first and longest running festival in the country devoted to films by and about Asians and Asian Americans, KNY is presenting a film screening on Saturday, July 23rd and Friday, July 29th.

On Saturday, July 23rd, Polis Evo directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar, is a Malaysian action flick about two cops with contrasting personalities and different backgrounds. After Khai, one of Kuala Lumpar’s best narcotics inspectors is sent to the small town of Terengganu after an old chemistry teacher is found dead with the red math Khai has been tracking. He is partnered with Sani, a happy go lucky family man who loves his comfortable life in Terengganu. Through reluctance and obstacles, the mismatched pair has to learn to work together to catch and take down one of Malaysia’s biggest drug lords. Can they do it?

On Friday, July 29th, Jolin directed by Siyan Liu and Danni Wang is a documentary that takes a look at Dongguan, the manufacturing hub and inadvertent sex capital of China which is home to 1.7 million female factory workers, 300,000 of which is comprised of factory girls turned sex workers. In 2014, since the government started cracking down on prostitution, many women attempt to flee the city. The focus of the film is on Jolin, a 22-year-old country girl who formerly worked as a factory girl and works as a stripper in Dongguan with dreams of leaving the city to become an actress. The filmmakers follows her will take us on a journey with Jolin through the many challenges she faces, as she undergoes risky plastic surgery to look “sexier” and tries to find her estranged father for reasons that go beyond healing her broken family.
