Kollaboration New York checks out KCON 2016
Although it’s July and the fireworks from Monday have fizzled out, we’re still reeling from last month’s KCON 2016 NY.
On June 24th and 25th, KCON USA took over the Prudential Center at Newark, New Jersey for its second year and Kollaboration New York was there to witness it all over again.
While we were excited to see Girls Generation last year, this year’s lineup proved to be just as great with Ailee, BTOB, Crush+Dynamic Duo, and Seventeen performing on the first evening and BTS, Day 6, Eric Nam, and Mamaoo on the final night.
During the day, the convention, which was free and open to the public, took place outside of the Prudential Center with various panels and workshops as well as booths that were set up. A smaller convention stage was set up with different artists performing throughout the afternoon such as Heesun Lee and the Woorigarak Dnace Team. Some of the vendors there included Tony Mony, Soko Glam, Tours Les Jour, the Korean Tourism Organization, and our one of our favorite apparel brands, Korelimited.
A few of the panels and workshops that took place throughout the day included tips on how to use k-beauty products, how to make Korean snacks, a Q&A with the cast and producers of the film Bad Rap, Hallyu 101, and a behind the scenes look at what some of S.M. Entertainment’s producers go through when working with artists such as EXO and SHINee.
Throughout the day, some lucky ticket buyers even had the chance to participate in artist engagement sessions, but only if they received a scratch card along with their ticket that allowed them to meet headlining performers.
However, it was the M-Countdown concert that everyone was anticipating the most and by the screaming fans in the audience, it seems as though the k-pop groups did not disappoint.
Amanda Bueno, one of this year’s attendees and KNY ticket giveaway winners, said it was her first time going to KCON and that it was an overall exciting experience.
“It was fun to see so many other people enjoy what you enjoy,” Bueno said. “My favorite part during the day was the beauty product vendors. It was fun to try samples of products I normally wouldn’t be able to.”
Bueno said the concert was beyond incredible and that she would try and come back for next year’s event.
“I’ve never seen a stadium that big filed up and the energy was amazing,” she added. “My favorite artists were Mamamoo and BTS. They killed it!”
