Kollaboration New York Open Mic Night for Typhoon Haiyan Relief

Hey there beautiful people! Did you miss us over the long holiday break, because we sure missed you!

Kollaboration New York’s back at it again for another year, striving to empower the Asian American community through entertainment. Last Thursday, we kicked things off with our first Open Mic Night of 2014 at Je’bon Sushi and Noodle in St. Mark’s. This particular Open Mic Night was doubly special for us because not only was it the first one of the year, but also because the proceeds and donations we received that night will be going to the Typhoon Haiyan Relief Program in partnership with the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON).

As we all know, parts of Southeast Asia particularly the Philippines, was hit by the tragic Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013. The aftermath is still felt today and the road to recovery is a long one ahead. Through our partnership with NAFCON and with the money we raised, we at Kollaboration hope to lend a helping hand in the recuperation of thousands of lives that were ruined as a result of the catastrophic storm.

These photos capture the amazing  work that NAFCON has been doing for those that have been affected from the tragic storm

Find out more about how we helped raised funds after the break.

In typical Kollaboration New York fashion, the turnout last Thursday was truly amazing and we would like to thank everyone who came out to support both our organization and the amazing NAFCON charity. We saw a packed house of over 100 people in a matter of minutes while we enjoyed 15 fantastic performances.

There were a few familiar faces up on that stage including several of our very own past finalists: the MC of the night Matt Pana (some of you may know him as the drummer of a little band called Mitchell Grey) and our Kollaboration New York 2013 winner Izzy Man.

So in case you missed our Open Mic last week or would just like to relive the precious memories here are a few recap photos below to hold you over, at least until our next one. To see all the photos, check out our the entire album at Facebook.

Be sure to keep up with us at throughout the year as we gear up for Kollaboration New York 9. Audition details will be released soon so keep checking our blog for up to date information.

If you were impressed by what you saw last Thursday would like to be one of the people that made it happen there are still a few positions available left on our staff so take a look at our available openings in Staff Openings, or if you just want to volunteer with us make sure to fill out the Volunteer Application.
